Three Questions - Day Three
Day 3
April 27, 2008

By Nick Gebhardt

On the final day of the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup in Punta Gorda, Florida, the top five teams fixed their boats to the cleats at Laishley Park Municipal Marina. The Redfish Cup pros joined the fathers and sons fishing the final day of the Water LIFE Kids Cup tournament as well as the group of fellow pros and invited guests for the Lake & Bay Pro Am.

Redfish Cup staff hopped from deck to boat to ask the following three questions to the Redfish Cup pros:

1. Did you have any trouble sleeping last night before the big day?

2. Are you trying something new or going with the tried and true?

3. How has water clarity been in the areas you’re fishing?

Mark Sepe, 1st place going into final day

Trouble sleeping? “No trouble at all once we finally got to bed. I slept all night.”

New plan or same program? “Exactly the same thing.”

Water clarity? “It’s been crystal glass, gin-colored water. So we’re trying to get our lines completely out of the water.”

Ray Malone, 2nd

Sleeping troubles? “No problem at all. No gitters. Just excited and ready to go.”

New plan or same program? “Same program. We’ll run the trolling motor. Johnny sights ‘em and I blind ‘em.”

Water clarity? “It’s been pretty good for us. Pretty clear with a bit of stain.”

John Ochs, T-3

Trouble sleeping? “Not at all, I slept like a baby. In fact, I wish I was still sleeping right now.”

New plan or same program? “We’re going to be sticking with the game plan that seems to be working.”

Water clarity? “When you get down to the sound and closer to the passes its gets extremely clear. I’d rather it be like that.”

Mike Del Duca, T-3

Trouble sleeping? No, Bo and I have been here so many times before. I did do a lot of day-dreaming though, seeing myself throw out that first lure and catching an eight-pounder.”

New plan or same program? “We’re doing everything new. We’re not running to Tampa. We’ll turn around and head down south.”

Water clarity? “We’re always looking for clean water but I’m not sure how it will be down there since we haven’t been there in a while.

Brian Ulch, 5th

Trouble sleeping? “Yeah I only got about two hours. I was thinking about it a lot.”

New plan or same program? “You go with what got you there.”

Water clarity? “It’s been fairly clear, not crystal clear. We’re fishing off a sandbar that drops off four feet and then turns into grass.”
